He should have had Cardinal Egan issue the apology.
(unless you listen to the show, you won't understand) Here's a sample of "Cardinal Egan": http://youtube.com/watch?v=ow3P2t2OA...4960DC&index=2

Suspension
Monday, Apr 09
Imus Slur: Williams Announces Suspension "Tonight it is being announced on this broadcast that radio host Don Imus, whose national morning show is simulcast on our cable network MSNBC, is being suspended, taken off the air for two weeks starting Monday, because of comments he made last week," Brian Williams said on Nightly News at 6:37pm. "Many of us at NBC News are frequent guests on the Imus show. He spent this entire day apologizing under withering fire for the remarks he made about members of the Rutgers basketball team." Rehema Ellis filed the report... Link

If you believe this was an isolated incident and just a slip of the tongue, think again.

The best way I can explain it is that they do parodies the same way Dave Chappelle does, or the same way the old television program "All in the Family" did. While the comments mentioned earlier in this thread were clearly racist and were said NOT during a parody, the comments brought up in this article of yours here were clearly from a parody (or several of them). If you want to really see racism, check out his "Mayor Ray Nagin" parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7GcZ7rPfYE

I suspect I am in a small minority here, (no pun intended), but
it really seems like a piling on deal. Was it not in "good taste"? Yes. Was it life changing for any of his audience or, reprehensible or salacious? I don't think so. I'm not Imus's fan club, but I enjoy his poking at and comments on politics, politicians, the "systems", people of all colors & situs, and his irreverant style. One would think he pulled his gun and shot someone on the set... I'm waiting for all the corp owned radio stations to start pulling the demeaning Rap lyrics that flood the airwaves. The entire country and, esp. the 24/7 blathering media, has gone PC/"after you my dear Alphonse", crazy, imo.

I think Imus was competely out of line. His comments were meant to insult...period. The women deserved better than that.
However, the comment about "the jigaboos versus the wannabes." was a (poor) attempt to compare the game to the Spike Lee film "School Daze". He misquoted the movie as "Do The Right Thing" Should he be fired...no. Was he wrong...with out a doubt. |
