Cruise Control in Rain
So I just got a forward of a forward email. Basically its this long story about this woman who hydroplaned her car and it "took off like a rocket." The patrol man at the scene said it was because her cruise control was on, so the car just kept spinning the wheels to keep the speed, thus when the wheels lost contact with the road, they shot the car off.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt this what traction control takes care of? It should sense when a wheel is just spinning and remove power from that wheel. Or is this true and we really shouldnt use traction control in the rain?

Its a little messy. I had to got to the manual the first time causse the buttons made no sense.

This is a pretty well know urban legend that oringnated in the early '00s.
Supposedly it is true, but most modern Trac/Stability systems will still work when cc is activated. http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/wetroad.asp I used the CC in my E53 occasionally, usually on empty stretches of road in rural Wisconsin and Indiana. I set it between 80-90 usually. Once, though , I did use it in pouring rain, at about 100-105 mph, in central IL (trying to outrun a tornado). I was fine, and didn't experience any loss of traction. I have yet to use it in the E70.

I use once in a while. You have to do a few things to set it up though. MB has a pretty good cruise control. You just flick up the stalk, and its on.

Sounds like Urban Myth/BS to me...
We have done literally dozens and dozens of all day road trips, NC to NY, NC to FL, etc. Some of these trips have been done in the fringes of 'canes. I'm talking about driving across lakes on the interstate. Or, in snowy, slickazz winter weather... While I am not an all-cruise-control-all-the-time user, we have traversed several hundred yards of ponded water on roads with nary a head nod by the ol'goil, with cruise on. I've beat on the table in old posts: in my 45 years of driving cars and stuff, nothing runs down the road in any adverse condition, like our old X5 does. Maybe the lady driver used to own one of those self-accelerating Audis.
