Doesn't make sense, but what does?

Check your history: blacks got to vote, on occasion,
in about a dozen places, post 1866, and for a long
time after. The Civil Rights Act was a marvelous piece
of legislation that had little to no effect in most parts of the US,
(Tenn was just being readmitted under Reconstruction), and if one
had a beef about not "being treated equal", it usually fell
on deaf ears or by a gunning sheriff or, a lynch mob.

It was, and still is, the basis for equal protection under the law,
discrimination, etc.

Do some homework on Right to Vote, state by state, etc.

Yes, Women were treated as chattel then...

Hope I helped on your homework, lol!

As with many other laws, having the law on the books is not enough. They must enforce the law too.

Well Eric...I pictured you for a selective enforcement kind of guy. I'm happy to hear you believe we should enforce the laws on the books.

Join us in the fight to deport and arrest illegal aliens and put away drug offenders.

Or is what you just said above Bull Sheit?

No, that is what I believe. I don't agree with all the laws, and definately think some should be changed, but if you have a law on the books, either get rid of it (change the law) or else enforce it. Ignoring it is just stupid.

As for drug offenders, I've never heard someone express an opinion that not enough of them are being put away. Just the opposite, most people complain that too many drug offenders are cluttering up the prison system. We have more people per capita in prison than any other country in the world. Here in New York State, the population hasn't changed much since 1970. In 1970, New York State had 7 prisons. Today we have 73, and are still building new ones every year.

What you have to understand is that crime is not a cause but a symptom. To eliminate it, you must prevent it, not only deal with it once it happens. All too often people only want to "fight" crime, and not deal with the underlying causes of crime. The result of that is that one out of every 100 Americans is behind bars.
