10miles over limit ticket vs drug dealing
My 17 years old daughter recently got a ticket (first one) for doing 30mph in a 20mph speed limit zone. She went to the court yesterday and the judge told her that she had to do a 10h community service as well as complete a safety driving class and then go back to court and may be considered for a PJC. Just in front of her there was this 17 years old boy with her mother who was convicted of drug dealing. The boy only got 10h of community service and that is it!!! What's up with that???

Was your daughter represented by an attorney? Seems a bit excessive. Was she speeding in a school/construction zone?

I actually feel sorry for this black boy as he will not learn from this...but my daughter certainely did. This boy will continue to go down the wrong
road in life...and his mother ....she did nothing to stop it...but sign his go to jail card by letting this happen! My opinion anyway |

Alpac, considering African American's would probably argue that they are usually the one's getting the short end of the legal stick. Maybe this is just one of those cases of the world trying to correct itself.
Imagine if it were the other way around and your daughter had been caught drug dealing and he had been caught speeding and the penalties were the same. btw, I'm also not quite sure why his race was important in your post. It almost sounds as if your saying, a black boy can't learn from probation but your daughter can. Quote:

Her sentence was tough because she was 17 at the time of the offense. Statistics have shown that more accidents and deaths are caused by young drivers especially speeding young drivers.
It could be argued that speeding teens are a danger to society while drug use is a personal crime if he was not using behind the wheel. That said I'm not one for relaxed drug laws and feel the drug dealer will be back in front of a judge while your 17 year daughter might not. |
