I'll have you know vinuneuro that today while ordering at a drive-thru I used the words 'please', 'thank you', and 'Mam' when placing and picking up my order. But then again, I am a product of a generation before that of present day.

This was not an isolated incident. Nor did it have anything to do with this thread either. It's a habit with me. It's the way I was brought up by my parents. I too am seeing the degredation of commom courtesy toward other human beings in today's society.

I firmly believe the problem is rooted in the environment presented in the home and by the attitude of the majority of parents. These days too many of those so called 'parents' rely on outside sources such as the school systems to instill their own children with the basic values of dicipline, common courtesy, and respect toward other human beings. But at the same time they actually restrict those outside sources from accomplishing the very task they wish them to perform. Also, due to their actions through legislature to create so-called 'protective' laws, have inhibited their own ability to instill these values themselves.

God help the teacher that scolds a student for misbehaving in class, they might lose their job. Or the parent that spanks their child for setting the neighbors house on fire, they might be thrown in jail for 'abusing' a child

Frankly, that's one of the reasons I like watching the CSI shows. They seem to be one of the very few whose charcters actually use "please" & "thank you" on TV. It's about respect for others and being polite. It's no wonder these words get lost in a society that ridicules the thought that YOU are responsible for your actions.

ot: I LOVE csi (the 1st, vegas)....I've seen every single episode! Yes, they are polite!

I think it makes a huge difference wheather you use please and thank you. It's the difference between you walking out of a store and the clerk saying "what a jerk" (to herself) and "have a good day"(to you).
