Electric car 0-60 in around 4 sec!
What do you guys think about it? http://www.teslamotors.com/ BTW it is obvious that it will take a long time to benefit from the gas savings, given the price tag, it is more about performance and something different that he likes.

looks pretty cool! I think I read about this one a few months ago. Is this the car that used the huge Lithium ion batteries? Basically huge cell phone batteries?

Yeah I am pretty sure, its either huge cell phone batteries or laptop batteries if they aren't the same thing just different sizes.

yeah, saw this on abc nightly news last night. It has 6 or 7 thousand lithium ion batteries that last about 100K miles. Unfortunately, you can only go about 200 miles between charges. I think they said that they have already received deposits for the first 100 orders at $100K each, and the buyer can't test drive it, only go on a ride-a-long. The guy who started Paypal already has invested $37 mil into the company. Seems like a pretty amazing car, considering there are only about 12 moving parts to the engine, according to the news report. It also uses an aluminum chassis that's similar to the ones used in F1 race cars that allow the drivers to walk away from a crash almost unharmed. If it takes off, it will be the first successful American automobile startup in 50 years. It was a very interesting report that almost made me miss Jay Leno's Headlines.

Your going to have to wait a long time to get one now.
The first 100 are gone. For the cars sold after that, its looking like a late late next year for delivery... (oct-nov 08') Basically the Tesla is a Lotus elise in disguise. Lotus will actually be manufacturing the cars in England... The secret to its speed is how light the car is as-well as the fabulous torque right off the line thanks to the electric engine... |
