We are no better than the terrorists and therefore what they are doing is justified as a response to our actions in the world.
Your position is quite clear. You think terrorism is justified when you agree with the goals of the terrorists. On the other hand, my position that terrorism is never justified is absolute.

What do you think of terrorists like the Nicaraguan Contras and Cuban terrorist groups like Alpha 66? Do you think that their terrorism was justified?

And what do you think about the Bush administration's refusal to extradite terrorists wanted by other countries like Luis Posada and Orlando Bosch? Do you think they should be extradited?

If you think those terrorists are ok, then you are no different than an Al-Queda supporter. You just have different politics than they do.

If on the other hand, I am wrong, then please do say that our government was criminal in giving financial support to, and helping to train, these terrorist groups and individuals. Somehow I doubt you will say so.

Last friday afternoon, at about 4.20 pm, I was on plane in the runway at Ottawa airport, ready to take off to Newark. suddenly the Captain announces we're to stand-by in the runway for at least the next hour; since all incoming flights into all 3 NYC area airports were ordered not to take off. Excessive Traffic was the alledged reason... Anyhow the ban was lifted an hour later and we took off. I never really bought the "traffic" justification. This scare must have been the reason...

Friday night I was at JFK picking up my mother and they had to wait on the runway for about 1 hour and 40 minutes, and the next day I read about the plot to blow up JFK, you can imagine all the things that I was thinking and like other said what worries me is all the planning that could be going on right now to blow something up and we don’t know anything about it!
So I don’t know why some people want to play it down like it was nothing big, try telling that to those working at the airport or to their families!

Eric...You forget or don't understand there can be no "Absolutes" when it comes to war or terrorism. Your "Absolute" just defined our troops in Iraq as terrorists. You can't equate the men who stormed Normandy with Jihad nor can you equate our troops in Iraq with Al Qaeda. Sometimes war is messy and the enemy of your enemy temporally becomes your friend.

Yes, there can be absoultes. I can say that things like terrorism and genocide are ABSOLUTELY wrong. It doesn't matter who carries them out or for what purpose. And anyone who supports such activities is as bad as the terrorists themselves. And that includes groups like the Contras and Alpha 66, as well as groups like Hamas and Al-Queda.

Since you believe otherwise, please give me an example of when terrorism would be acceptable to you. And don't include names of countries or individuals in your example. Give me a hypothetical example using "Country A" or "Country B" or "Group A" or "Group B". Let's see you put your beliefs into words.

Impossible considering your definition of terrorism. You equate the taking of any innocent lives in warfare as terrorism. Which would make all wars a terrorist action.

I guess we should have let the Germans take over Europe and allowed the atrocities of Auschwitz because carpet bombing Germany would have lead to way too many innocent lives lost.

So though I also believe Terrorism and Genocide are wrong our definition of what constitutes Terrorism and Genocide are completely different. I DON'T believe our troops in Iraq are terrorist and I believe the carpet bombing of Germany in WWII was justified regardless of the civilian losses. That goes for the Atomic bombs dropped on Japan as well.

The Atomic bombing of Japan is a bit tougher for me to stomach but end the end it saved countless thousands of American lives and ended Japans involvement in the war. I've seen some of the aftermath and that included some tragic scenes of children who survived the event. It was heartbreaking and I'd wished there were a way to avoid that tragic reality of war. Fact is we have minimized collateral damage and death with technology and rules of engagement but try as we might death is a reality of war.
