It seems to be less an "iPhone killer" and more like a cellphone monopoly killer. The beauty of the device is the open platform and the ability to run on any GSM network.
However, it's made and marketed by FIC, which is a relatively small-time Taiwanese electronics company better known for its mobos and graphics cards. Asus and Acer are way bigger players, have deeper pockets, and bigger distribution channels, but can't even make a dent in markets outside of Asia aside from their PC component sales. For FIC to make the Neo1973 a mainstream phone is a stretch IMHO, unless they sell it off to a cellphone maker with some clout, like Motorola as an example. I think it ends up as a niche phone for the hacker community, much like the PPV6700. If anything, they should get Keanu Reeves as a spokesperson...
