It is a bit interesting that some parents these days seem to be falling short regarding dietary issues involving their children. Here's a point i found interesting:

Yahoo! Health points out, it's generally a bad idea to give kids caffeine. It can interfere with sleep habits, exacerbate hyperactivity, and contribute to dehydration. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it causes the body to eliminate water.

Yup. I'd love to know why parents have ZERO trouble giving their kids soda though.

My sister's kids drink water and milk. One of them will drink soda at dinner but she only buys decaf soda.

When we were kids our soda intake was monitored also, as was candy, fast food etc. Life is different now I guess.

As children my brother and I had soda/cake/sweets only on "special occasions," so pretty much only at Christmas. Maybe that's one of the reasons why neither of us has ever had a cavity....ever. Needless to say, my grandfather could do whatever he wanted when we were at his house, I mean, he was allowed to spoil his grandchildren! His only "sin" against my parents was giving us the occasional cup of coffee!
