Thanks again, guys and gals. I've been able to maintain telephone contact with my mother, and have spoken with her approximately every hour since 2 pm. She's OK thus far, but terrified, considering that at least 2 roofs in the neighbourhood are now nonexistent. My brother's cell phone battery went dead several hours ago, so I haven't gotten a text message or call from him in a while. My mom's been unable to get in touch with him as well, so we're hoping he and his friends are OK. But, otherwise, thus far, all is well! Yay!

Final update: Just spoke to my mom. Both her and my brother are OK, as are his friends. His buddy's house had significant flooding. Our house is fine, and sustained no real damage, but the retaining wall and gate at the end of the driveway now lie in the neighbourhood street (our house is on a hill) and sorta blocks access to the cul-de-sac. My bro's places are OK as well, with no/minimal flooding.
Thus far, there are reports of 3 deaths, but numbers are still coming in. St. Thomas, one of the eastern parishes, is apparently cut off from the rest of the island as roads are impassabe, and communication lines are virtually nonexistent. My family and I thank you all for your prayers and support. It was greatly appreciated!

Good to read that your Fam is ok, S!
My parents lived through Gilbert in '88, while living on Montserrat, but that much smaller island & economy never really recovered and then, the volcano did that island in. Good luck to your Fam in the digging out from under process. BR,mD

Thanks all! The motto of this site rings true yet again - the friendships are truly amazing.
MD: I missed experiencing Gilbert by ~2 months. We moved to NYC in '88. My dad said it was quite an experience - he went back to get the house ready prior to the storm. I'm now praying for the people in the Yucatan peninsula, etc. now bracing for Dean's onslaught.
