The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl
It's OK if you've never read Dante's Divine Comedy.

If you're a science buff:
A Short History of Nearly Everything By Bill Bryson
Despite the title, not exactly "history," but instead a pretty interesting and at times funny book which answers various questions about the universe in layman's terms.

If you like graphic novels:
- Y The Last Man by Brian Vaughn & Pia Guerra (This is an ongoing saga, and is now up to Volume 9, I think).
- Preacher by Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon (This series/story is complete)
