But now she is a ball dog, all ball all the time!

Our Border Collie mix was an abandoned street-roaming little mutt that we rescued. We did not know about their herding "instincts" around kids. Not long after we took her in, my wife and I heard the then-five-year old scream, "Ouch!" When we asked him what had happened, he said, "the dog just bit my butt!" We did not believe him, and brushed it off... Then, a few days later, we actually SAW the dog try to "herd" (corner) Ryan. He, of course, had no idea, and started running away like any five-year old would. That's when she nipped in the butt again! "Ouch! You see? The dog bites me" We laughed so hard. She did not hurt him at all.. it was just a little nibble. She's an incredibly sweet dog. Anyway, we later read that border collies may not be the best dogs to have around little kids, but what did we know? We just wanted to rescue the poor animal.

Anyway, we had a talk with Ryan, and explained to him what he should or should not do around the dog... All is well. "Precious" has been with us now for some 6 years, and sleeps with the now-11-year old Ryan (on the bed, under the covers) every night. Every morning when I go wake him up, I see two bundles under the cover... very cute.

Our Murphy is actually an extremely gentle dog and protects the kids as if they were her own. Perhaps it is a male/female Border thing. She has 'nipped' some people in the heel or calf when trying to herd them, but that only happened when she was a puppy. Perhaps it's because she always has a ball or toy in her mouth nowadays, hoping she can convine someone to throw it for her.

Beautiful dog, SAN!

Here are two pictures of Cooper: One from a few years ago, and another one from last year sleeping on our bed, recovering from surgery... I almost lost here there..

Nice looking dog! I love yellow labs. My cousin has one that's about a year old named Babe, and she's soooo cool. She had an accident last year, though... They were in Boston and she was in a park and she slipped and fell on some rebar, and it impaled her. She's fine now though.

I love Sunshine. She's a great dog and one of the smartest I've met. I think she's smarter than her master.

Here is the only picture I have on my work PC of my feline beast. Yeah, yeah, I know a guy probably shouldn't have a cat but I'm too irresponsible to own a dog right now. If I did have a dog it would be either an Akita, a German/Czech Shepard, or a Lab like Sunshine.

This is Max with toothpaste all over his face. I fell asleep on the couch, woke up at 3:00 am, stumbled to my bathroom to brush me teeth in the dark, feeling my way around. Somehow during that I must have smeared toothpaste on him. Max is the basis for my now-famous "my cat purrs louder than that" comment on SuperGreg's Remus.

Here is another picture of Sunshine.
