Jet ski question

My jet ski has a 2 inch by half inch area of jel coat missing on the haul. I can see the construction of the fiberglass. However, the fiberglass is not damage. Do I need to re-gel the haul? Anyone has any idea? If I don't do it, will the area expand? Any input will be great! Thanks!

Yes you should fix this before it expands. If the fiberglass is not damaged then just replace the gel-coat layer using the following method. Use either white polyester putty or grey car body putty. Even with white polyester putty it will be very difficult to match the original color. Make sure you mix the hardener and polyester together very well and the apply it into the break until it overflows. Once the putty is hard then sand it to level and finish it with 600 grit wet sandpaper. Then paint the repair using a paint as close as the original color and polish it with 1500 or 2000 grit sand paper and polishing putty to blend the color.

now the problem is... how to flip over the ski....
To Clarify~ Should I use fiberglassr repair kits? or the putty is just fine? I have a black haul... so I don't think color would be much of a problem... except the scratches are so visible

My advice is to let a local boat or PWC shop repair it. They do this every day, and can do it in a few minutes. I had my dealer repair a small scrape on mine, and cannot see the repair. They acted like it was no big deal.

This must be repaired not just for cosmetic reasons but if the fiberglass absorbs water it will compromise the hull structure.

1. Let it dry well

2. Put some fiberglass resent over it and let it dry well

3. Black should be easy to match. Use jel coat.

4. Sand, water sand and buff.

5. Go play.

yes, but does the putty works as fine as the gel? what is going to be the best way to do this?

I talked to the mechanic which is 70 miles away... he told me that he will charge 50 dollars to fix the haul... I think is a pretty good deal.. but driving that far... is tough.
