...and many of these problems were traced to APE hacks and other miscellaneous hacks that were in their Tiger OS before the update. I had no problems with my update and those that shared my family pack (5 macbooks). Most of our Apple User Group members in Maui also installed theirs flawlessly. The Apple forum thread above was about the blue screen problem and how it can be fixed (which they seem to have already). I don't think you would see any users posting their flawless upgrades in that thread. If you read the thread as it unfolded, many of them have about 5 -10 posts each which would explain the LOOOONG thread. My .10cents but of course you can call me an Apple Fanboy anytime.

Look, I'm not an Apple basher (except for their misguided previous policy of being the monopolistic producer of their boxes), I just find it funny that the system/OS that is supposed to be easy, reliable, virus-free, and user-friendly is causing problems when people try to upgrade to a new version OS. It's completely against the convential wisdom and Apple's marketing message (as well as the fanboy testaments). That's funny. I feel sorry for those users that are experiencing the pain associated with problematic installs, but the big picture is funny - perhaps ironic would be a better word? Didn't mean to start a fight by pointing out the obvious. I'll not comment on Apple products again (unless I love it, of course).

OS upgrades, no matter the system, should not be done by the general masses IMO.

What does crack me up is the fact that Apple Support seemed to come through like most other clueless hardware/software companies. Example...Let's give them bogus excuses until we figure out what is really going on. Nice to see the hype is just that...Hype. |

My Leopard is working great now and MUCH faster. The problem I had was with my hard drive, not Leopard. I can tell you this: I have spent WAY more time troubleshooting windows than mac, period. I'm not an Apple freak I just want get things done on my computer, not fix things all the time.

With every upgrade there is a learning curve and figuring out the new system takes time (time is money). That is why I considered Apple in the first place...If I need to spend time on a new operating system that seems like the best time to change to another platform. |

You should also take into consideration how much time it will take to maintain a system. With that in mind i gotta say that's where mac's shine. That's the beauty of it. Once it's set up that's it. It's pretty much trouble free.
