I think Hybrids and Clean Diesel are both technologies to improve mpg.

Major automakers including BMW are utilizing both technologies.

Over time we will understand the benefits and limits of each technology; it is to early to say which is best.

You didn't even read the thread you posted did you. Let me help you.

"the X5 diesel has been made in Sparatanburg and xported for the past several years and has a great track record....additionally, the environmental cost of manufacturing and disposing of the nickel batteries used by hybrids far exceeds the net benefit."

So from this post (which you didn't read) it is evident that we already understand the benefits and limits of each technology.

Read the thread you posted. Then think " Dispose of those batteries and the hydrocloric acid". Not rocket science IMHO

Maintaining the performance of a Cayenne S with the consumption of a base Cayenne has to be a good thing. I think that is what they are trying to achive. If they were succesful? I have no clue.

I certainly hope BMW is not going to try to make a green-mobile - I want them to keep making BMW's

Exactly, that is why they need to stop the nonsense of making current models 'hybrid' and start building models that were designed that way from the ground up.
