Question New Ultracompact Canon: SD870 IS or SX100 IS?

Now, as a preface, I am not your "average" camera connoisseur. I am more knowledgeable than most, but far behind many guys on this site.

I bought a Casio EX-Z700 in April. Mistake. It brought me terrible picture quality, and (obviously I knew this when I bought it) no manual controls. I have been lazy in replacing it, but I think a new Canon will be my gift to myself for this holiday season.

Up until Friday, my top choice was the Canon SD870 IS. From all reputable sites and magazines, it has excellent picture quality, fine controls and just about everything you'd want in an ultracompact. Then I saw the SX100 IS at Best Buy and was very impressed. The SX100 is also $50 less.

When I get the camera, I'll do a real photo shoot with the X5, so you get something out of it, too!

Thoughts?

considering the tremendous response to his original topic, I reckon he is still Casio'ing away...

LMAO.

"Tremendous response."

Yes, I did get the Canon. Still have it. And yes, I did get a Nikon D40. Have that too.

Nice pic, I took thesame one 3 months ago (with a G7 though)

According to my friend who grew up in SF that was his favourite make-out spot in his late teens... lol
