Directv / Tivo

As far as I can tell, Directv has no connection with Tivo for DVR service right?

Is the Tivo DVR service much better than what Directv gives its subscribers?

On the cusp of transitioning from Comcrap. Just need to make some minute decisions.

Direct TV with it's TIVO, is the best service I've had. No problems, easy recording, instant playback and pause. Great HD and digital.
My 2 cents, go for it...

V,
Jes' curious why you are tossing ComCrap?

They do lack horribly in customer "service", but
we have them here in FL and the telephone, highspeed
internet and HD TV with DVR is pretty damn good, imo.

I do have sat back on the Mtn but haven't made the move
to HD there, yet.

Mike and Zerochief: So your feed is through Directv, but you pay Tivo for the DVR service?

Ryan and Sunil: Did you just buy your own DVR and pay Directv for the DVR service? Are there certain DVR's that are better than others? There seem to be soo many out there.

This is kinda new to me, because with Comcast you just pay them $10/mo and they give you the DVR to use.

Thanks for your input guys.

Bought mine after having DT for years. DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG, IMO. Mine was a POS as a HD receiver so when I went for a HD-DVR I made sure I didn't buy Samsung. And as a result, bought the HD-DVR from DT and haven't had a problem since.

MD, right now we're with Comcast for television, internet (only option here for broadband) and phone, also. I think they give a pretty solid deal on the local/North America calls, so we'll stick with them for that. Internet, no choice.

As far as cable/HD goes, they can't compete with the sat. providers. Not even close. Not only does Directv give 70 HD channels (100 by beginning of next year), a lot of the channels that Comcast would normally charge for are standard (like Speed, etc). Fwiw, Comcast is only fees about 15-20 HD channels now. Couple that with some signal problems that Comcast isn't able to resolve, and the same price between it and Directv, and it's a no brainer.

Agree on Samsung. Thier product reliability sucks.
I have the DirecTV HD-DVR which I got from DirecTV. You can also get that from Costco or Best Buy and then call DirecTV. Costco is offering some deals for DirecTV these days.

I'm with Wagner. I have the HD-DVR from Direct TV. I believe there is a $4 additional charge per month per unit for DVR service. I'm happy with the HD DVR however sometimes I have to reboot it (about every few weeks). Menus are easy to navigate.
