also, almost every high end TV regardless of flavor (lcd, plasma, hd, etc) has a service menu that is hidden. You can do a search on AVSforum.com for your make/model and get the key codes for sneaking into it and changing the settings. BUT, BE VERY VERY VERY careful when doing that, if you screw something up there is rarely an "oooops" key sequence to fix whatever you might have screwed up and you can potentially damage the set.

I agree, getting a professional ISF calibration is really the way to go....but the Avia and Digital Video Essential discs can give you about 75% of a ISF calibration. Calibrating your set costs about $250-$500 (depending upon who it is and what you want them to do) and makes EVERY difference in viewing your set. I had my lil 27" Sony XBR done and it was a night and day difference -- I would do it all over again if I had to.

Juan, I don't know what kind of TV you have, but if you watch a lot of TV and want your TV to look its best, look into having it professionally calibrated. We can give you lots of info on the process

Despite what many people may believe, plasma is not a dying technology. It does offer superior qualities over other technologies. Check out the following:

Thanks, yea, the Qualia is what got me so excited over SXRD. I agree, Plasma was a technology I was seriously considering, unfortuantely the power factor (those babies suck down 400-500 watts in use!) is just too crazy. Looks like the rear projection units use about half of that.

I know it might sound silly not to buy a TV because of power consumption, but 500 watts is a lot of juice!

HDTV...theCEO, whom is not prone to spending big dough or, chasing the latest wrinkle, is in lust w/Sony's 70 Inch LCD proj TV. We saw it in a Circuit City in Naples this past July while doing the walkthrough and painting a couple of rooms in our new FlawRaDuh joint.

Pic Was remarkable. I keep checking the pricing and it seems to be dropping.

I think she's lost her marbles, but I may do it; time is on our side as we don't need to pull the trigger until we "get there" for the season in Dec.

Over & Out from the PubLib 'puters, lol!
Good Sunday to all. BR,md

Yeah, but that new model will also cost more money, no?

Actually it should be less, and the technology will be greatly improved. It's scary how quickly the technology (and prices) are changing on these things.

Panasonic just announced a huge price drop on their Plasmas for the end of August....ya just can't keep up!

Damn wish I had the money for that stuff...

I'm settling with a 42" Hitachi rear projection LCD HDTV for $2900 Canadian including taxes and a 5-year extended warranty from Best Buy.

Here in Toronto, we only have 29 HD channels so far, and most are news. Why anyone would bother to watch CNN in HD is beyond me...but the channel exists, so go figure.
