Just wait a year or two and that will all go away. It happens with every new cool sports car.

A few years back I got a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder. In 2000 when it first came out, they were going for $5-10k over MSRP. In 2001 when I got mine, there was a waiting list, but I paid MSRP. By 2003 they couldn't give them away and they had huge discounts.

I recently saw that Mercedes is giving $12k cash back on the SL. Remember the premium they were charging when that model first came out?

you're comparing a mr2 to a limited production car supercar. Different story.

wayyyyy too much people want that car, prodution is pretty low, so IMO those prices are going to stay like that for a while, i think it will be possible that even the ones from a private seller will be sold for more because of the waiting list @ dealers

Demand for the MR2 Spyder was probably higher than it will be for the GTR. Remeber that the MR2 Spyder was a mid-engine roadster for around $22k. And they only made around 5,000 of them the first year. It took me 6 months of waiting to get one in the color I wanted, and that was in year #2 of production.

The GTR is much more expensive and much much fewer people can afford it. The demand will dry up much quicker than you think. 12,000 cars per year for a $70k sports car is not "low production". By comparison, Audi is producing only 3,000 R8's per year. In 1991, Acura produced fewer than 5,000 NSX's, and the wait list on that one was gone by year #2. By next winter we will be seeing the GTR selling at MSRP, and by Summer 2009, there will be discounts.

still missing the point.. you can only mark up a 20K car so much. Supply and demand is a easy concept. You can't keep up demand of a 20K toyota vs a inconic car such as the GT-R. Also, if you read it properly... 6000 of that is going to Japan. Rest split between the world. You probably will not see more than 1 to 2 per dealer here and given the dealer network in the US for Nissan's not all dealers will get one if you do the math.

if you really want to talk markups try 150K to 200K over for a Scuderia and 200+K on a 599GTB. Those prices will hold if not go up given the euro vs $.

That is similar with the GT, those things were marked up like crazy all the way to the day they stopped production. Apparently demand never died off. I saw one on a showroom floor after Ford had dropped the GT still going for nearly $150,000.

well maybe.... but its a competitor for MANY sports cars..... Porche, Corvette, Viper, Lambos and Feraries (just because of Price/Performance vale) and maybe new V8 M3(but i doubt many BMW fans will give up M3 )

I'm sure prices will eventually settle but that is too bad for buyers like me, I would have loved to get one of those bad boys.

I tend to agree, just seeing some of the anticipated performance stats...
get Lil'BigR working as a kid model and you'll have the spare dough to cop one!
