here in the UK a lot of vehicles are manual gears. Until we got the X5, all of our cars incl Audi A6 were manual. Wife drives them without a problem, in fact the first time we drove an automatic, we didnt know what we were doing. Sounds strange but it took some getting used to.

In our village I know of a woman that crashed through a garden wall when she first got an auto. She pressed the accelerator in the confusion of looking for the clutch pedal and brake :-)

The other thing in the uk is that the vast majority of people learn to drive in a manual. In fact until about 15 years ago it was mandatory to sit your driving test in one. Now if you sit your test in an auto you get an auto-only driving licence.

The vast majority of cars in the uk are also manual boxes.

I can drive a manual just perfectly, and can even heel and toe (but not quite so well).

Sadly since a back injury Manual cars are a thing of the past as gear changing makes my back tense up....

I admit it, I'm a wuss....I can hear it, I know WHEN to shift but I find myself concentrating so hard on what my feet are doing that I lose the concentration that should be directed towards the road and basic driving skills. I was seriously thinking about taking driving lessons on a standard transmission.
