HDTV Market is heating up!

FYI, I don't know if anyone has been keeping up with the HDTV market, but price wars are really heating up! Prices have significantly dropped in the past 6 months. It is making me want a HDTV even more, even though there are not any channels out there to watch

Right now Sony is introducing a new technology called SXRD (Silicon Xtal Reflective Display or something). It is supposed to have stunning blacks and brilliant colors. They have a 70" unit out right now with this technology and the sticker price was $12,000. Two new 50" and 60" units are coming out with 4k and 5k MSRPs. This just goes to show you where prices are heading!

JVC and Samsung (as well as Sony) will be introducing sets that will up-convert ALL signals to 1080p. This apparently presents a more 3D picture, with excellent detail and quality. While this won't mean much to smaller HDTVs, bigger TVs (55-70) will be really able to tell the difference.

It's an exciting time....we'll see what happens!

Yeah, We purchased out Phillips HDTV Plasma for about 6k a few months ago. Now if you go to BestBuy or Circuit City, you will find the same thing about 20% less than the retail price. On Cablevision, Each month they are adding about 2 HD channels. Right now we have about 30 of them.

Which Cablevision system are you on that you're getting 30 HD channels?

My future brother in law is a designer/installer/salesman for high end a/v and home automation & integration, he's real high on that new Sony Silicon.

Good stuff, Chris.

I just bought a Panasonic 50PX50U. Got the deal through a friend.
$3600 with delivery.

I am a happy happy man..

It arrives at the end of August..

For the record though, I am only buying a Plasma so I can mount it in the bedroom. Otherwise I still much prefer the cheaper, better picture on a rear projection big screen or the LCD.

I think plasma's are a fad and the ONLY reason to get one is if space is truly needed. Once you have all the gear hooked up, the speakers, etc. You might as well have put a tv "in there" and saved a bunch of money, gotten a bigger screen and a better picture.

Just my .02.

Plasmas are wonderful... if you want to hang your TV on the wall. Aside froom that, save a few thousand bucks and buy a rear-projection LCD. We bought a Sony 50' rear-projection LCD HDTV (man, that's a mouthful) in March and we could not be happier. The picture is stunning!

You're right, though, Chris. Prices are becoming VERY competitive lately. Good news for us consumers!

Yup, I just got the new 60" Sony rear projection TV in March and absolutely love it. What a TV. In addition, I got it for $2,600.00.
