The Nissan FX45 is close to what you listed (including the rwd-awd, minus the tough look), but it is booring.
When I say good, I mean high teens around town. I know, I'm asking too much.

Close but that's not where I was going... and my TB sits at the park/ride all day, i've had it 2.5 years and I've only run up 11k miles Can't leave an X5 in a public parking lot all day, it tends to get have its headlights stolen...

One can only dream.
Rav 4 V6 Limited, yes its primarily front wheel drive but it is close.

Thanks Blue, but it falls short on almost every category.

1) It's a soccer mom/chick car
2) It's not "tough"looking
3) It's not over 290 hp
4) It's towing cap is 2000lbs
5) It's front wheel drive

Maybe you were thinking of some other car ?

1) soccer mom/woman drives all types of car (some even drive X5 and Blazers)
2) You are right it could look better.
3) Its got a 3.5-liter, 269-hp V6, that makes it as fast as a X3 and it gets much better mpg (on regular). It is also much faster than a Blazer.
4) It has a 3500lbs towing cap, with v6 and trailer package.
5) It is 4 wheel drive

I wish they made a Limited Sport version.

It will run for ever with lower maintenance cost.

It does not drive like a BMW, it does look as nice (inside and out), and does not offer the prestige. But for $25,000 it's not a bad deal and does meet most of your criteria. (Much better than the HHR someone recently purchased)

Thanks for the recommendation, but you're not going to convince me.

(btw- it's a primary front wheel drive that transfers power to the rear when slip is detected, that's not awd, it's fwd, and it has a locking diff that shuts off over 25 mph), I won't drive a fwd car, i don't like the feeling of being pulled. A 3500 towing cap is low, especially if the car is loaded, factor in fwd, and towing anything heavy is unsafe. 269 hp is not 290. you can do the math. )

I am not a MB fan, but I don't think it is horrible looking. Some angles are a little too sharp, but it looks a little more like a guys truck than the X3 IMO. Some X3's with the sport package and nicer wheels look O.K., but most look like chick SUV's IMO. Not quite as girly as the Rav-4 or Touareg though, which are total girl-mobiles. The Trail Blazer is a middle of the road American truck and nothing at all to get excited about. This MB will definately steal some buyers from the X3.
