You're right about the thread title. But i could care less about Sharpton.
Any comments about the case? Quote:

I thought Bloomberg said it best http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ial-like-this/.
I am no expert on the shooting. It is sad and a huge mistake. On the case again I don't know the facts, but don't think that it was abortion of justice. Back to Rev Al, he is a no good opportunist.

I don't think Sharpton is the problem. This is apart of the problem. Losing focus on the real issue. Who cares about Sharpton.
Bloomberg actually did say it best. The commissioner basically said "we're ready for war" - not sure if that's what you want to say on the day of the verdict. Quote:

C'mon...
You cannot be surprised that they were acquitted!! If anything, I was expecting a guilty verdict for reckless endangerment...considering 50 shots, bullets ripping through an elevated subway station and one officer emptying one clip, re-loading and emptying another. Not to mention they followed the Bell and friends for two blocks before the altercation...plenty of time to have approached them if they posed a threat to the public.
My only concern as a NYC resident is the message this sends to other officers...that they don't have to use discernment in similar circumstances. I was driving into the office on the West Side Hwy and noticed a pulled-over dark undercover DT car parked (heavily tinted) and could see two men in the car clapping vigorously, I was at a light and looked around and couldn't see what they were clapping at. I turned off the CD player to the bloomberg radio as they were announcing the verdict. I'm sure that's what they were clapping at...quite disturbing imho.

Yeah. I was going to post the same thing - I wasn't surprised at all. Not sure who is, but that's the sad part.
A friend of mine is an nyc detective, i asked him what he thought a few weeks ago. He said he doesnt think the officers did anything wrong, they were defending themselves- Bell and friends were using the car as a weapon. So i asked him "don't you think 50 shots is a bit accessive" - he said you can do 50 in a short time.. it's not that much. |

Let's also recall that the dead man was using his car as a weapon against the cops. They had every right to shoot until he was stopped.

I'm not surprised that is your reply LOL -
You're right on the timing and the amount of shots. You're also right on the current training "shoot until the threat is stopped." What most people don't know is that the undercover officers were there investigating a prostitution ring (no not the governer, he wouldnt be in queens). So why did they break their cover because of an argument that happened in the club where someone who said they had a gun? The question is really did the police identify themselves? there are witnesses who say they did, and witnesses who say they didn't. So, would they break months of cover - and identify themselves as police officers? Or as some people say they said "freeze! police" without showing their badges, and just their guns. So one could say if they didn't see a badge and all they saw was a gun, the driver got scared and drove off. Then they were shot at. OK, let's say there was a threat. So why then weren't there 36 bullets shot from each police officer? 1 only shot something like 4 bullets, another 11 bullets, then the last one shot something like 36. I think the problem is with the officer who shot 36 shots. If no one is shooting back after your first clip - why reload and empty another one? The other 2 didn't? So something should have told the judge - well - what did this officer see that the other 2 didn't? I also believe that in New York City - a car as a weapon is justifiable. I believe my officer friend told me it is for state troopers etc. Let's think about it, if this was a gentleman's club in the burbs- I'm sorry... they wouldn't have shot 50 bullets into someone's car, and no shots were being returned. |
