Shell I keep my 2005 X5 4.4i? Or give it back to the dealer?

My 39 month lease is up in Nov., and I will use up whole 49K mi by that time.
I had all the options but Nav and Sports Package. Residual will be around 35K from $60k-ish original price.

1. I know due to the SUV price fall the car won't be worth 35k. Fallen resale value won't be no longer my problem if I give it back to them despite some sentimental value I have.

2. I am looking at some some AUDI sedan's and station wagon because I want 4-weels drives that looks good too. (20ish MPG preferred). I waited for a year but new X5s just don't grow on me. Also I feel that committing to old old technology might not be a good idea due to recent advent of battery technology and so on. I could get a lease that I could write off as expense.

At least I am certain that buy that car paying full price will be very illogical decision, and dealer won't negotiate much from what I hear.

What shall I do?

Give it to the Stealer, Buy it back CPO. The market will do the negotiating for you

unless... they wholesale it. Then the jig's up

Hm, so you are looking at Audis, all of which are gasoline powered. Yet you don't want "old old" technology. Huh? Internal combustion engines are "old old" technology?? So you maybe want a hybrid, and the only 4WD hybrid that gets 20+ mpg is the Vue, Escape, or RX400h; and you probably don't want any of those.
But you are also considering keeping your 15 mpg X5, but don't want to get ripped off giving it back.

So just keep the X5, that way you don't get ripped off giving it back, and you save money because your costs are going to go up in the event you get a new car, which brings back to the question of do you still want to drive your X5?

I say bring it back.. and buy it back CPO'd - that would be classic. LOL. Lease a new Audi A6 or something, or look for another 2005,2006 X5 somewhere.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
The dealer has the second right to the car after you.

If you want the car you workout a deal with him.

I've been looking at 2008 Audi S8 with Lambo engine on it. Many good reviews.
Plus, I don't think my aging butt could stand hard ride of BMW.
Owners reviews say it get 23MPG highway if you put it on cruise.
Hopefully around 1300 $/Mon?
Great way to celebrate the demise of combustion engine with a big bang.
I still could afford 6 mile rt drive to work until it hits 15 mi/G,
I have to check my balance sheet before I make a decision, I still have time.

LoL Mich,

I say that because it's not a good economical decision to buy a car coming off lease. You have already paid to rent it and buying it now, at a value that is probably significantly higher than what it's worth, is just not smart.
