Just like Boston likes to have people recognize that a majority of it's citizens are or Irish decent. And don't tell me, THE IRISH learned to speak proper English, cause I saw Gangs of New York and I couldn't understand a god damn word of that movie, lol...B

I'm not talking about "Main language" or even suggesting that English be spoken "Exclusively".

My position is that the United States of America adopt a resolution making English our "Official Language" which would require that all "official" documents, forms and communications be printed in English only. I would also require all NEW citizens to pass a basic English test as part of the requirements for a Green Card.

I could care less what language you choose to speak at home or in public.

Also I doubt that "ALL" the immigrants in Miami speak English. As far as "Proper English" I know several people born in the South, North, East and West who butcher the English language every time they open their mouths. Its the Amerikan way Dude.

How is that unreasonable or racist?

I agree with this. How can English (or the variant that is spoken here in USA

) not be the Official Language?

And while I do think it should be deemed the official language of the United States, I wonder if it wasn't done in over 200 years...why start now? We've had FAR more foreign immigrants come in then just Spanish speakers.

This debate had been around since the 1760's when Benjamin Franklin circulated pamphlets in then Colonial Pennsylvania pushing a referendum requiring Germans to learn and speak English. The Germans made up a significant portion of the population and many street signs and publications were popping up in German. He wrote ‘Great disorders and inconveniences may one day arise among us,’ he warned, unless the Germans could be assimilated: (Pretty Smart Fellow).

200 years ago there were about 20 languages which could be heard across America. Now there is an estimated ~ 320 dialects being spoken across the Nation. The total cost of printing Government documents was hard to pin down but I was able to find this interesting figure:

Lindsey Graham R/SC once stated that the IRS printed 500,000 1040 forms in Spanish and received back only 700. At $157 a form you can do the math and that example is only one form in Spanish. The number must be staggering.

Time to stop the bleeding and get our financial house in order.

Just because it was not accomplished does not necessarily mean it should not be accomplished. With that said, I'm glad Government is not able to do everything it wants. Deadlock and Non-Action can be a good thing.
