I know what the facts are, no need for me to google. New Orleans was not the only city to be evacuated in South Louisiana. Yes I stayed, as I was living in Baton Rouge (still do). Baton Rouge is approximately 60 miles nortwest of New Orleans. All we got were heavy rains and 35 mph winds. There was no need to evacuate. We kept the roads clear for those who did. I was working Uptown N.O. at the time and our firm relocated to Houston until October. People from lower lying parishes came to Baton Rouge for shelter, among other cities.

Krimson where in NOLA do you live? My whole family is from there, mainly in Lakewood South, Garden District, and then also in Reserve, LA, and New Iberia, LA.

Are those people? lol sorry don't know them.

Wagner: here are some pics I took a few months after Katrina. Notice how these houses are fairly upscale and you would probably not have guessed this was NOLA. These people made it out. These people did not "re-elect the same leaders" either. You are lumping all NOLA residents in one sum. This could be you too.

almost forgot----

I wouldn't live under sea level next to the gulf of Mexico. And I never said "all" or "lumped" anything, stated the facts of the matter

When my family came to NO in the 1800's broke, I don't think they wanted to live at sea level next to the gulf either. But I'm sure glad they stayed, it happened to work out very well for them.....

Wagner,

I live in Los Angeles, the entire area is one giant FAULT line. When I lived in NY, it was a hurricane zone. Miami we had water spouts, hurricanes and were 45 miles away from one of our worst enemies, CUBA.
Columbus Ohio, we had tornado's..

Now, I don't entirely disagree that building a city below sea level probably isn't the brightest thing. But lets be honest, there is no place anywhere in the world that is disaster proof.

p.s. - My friends and I all have earthquake plans... Hope we never have to use them.
