The only good move that Bush will make will be on Jan. 20th 2009.

Sooner or later, we will have to drill offshore. It also takes time for companies to develop the infrastructure. If we don't think about the long term now, we'll be more screwed down the road.
Seriously, what happens 10-20 years down the road, when we need more sources of crude? Dont say "Oh we'll decide then", because "then" still requires time to build and move the equipment up there. |

Don't count on the Democratic Congress (esp. Pelosi and Reid) to support him on this. They will do what's in their own political best interests and not what's best for the country. And many of their interests lie with the enviromentalists who have crippled energy policy in this country for years- and of course making Bush look as bad as possible. My bet is they'll stall any legislation until after the election.

And, in record time: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080618/...h/offshore_oil And to quote: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Bush's proposals "another page from (an)... energy policy that was literally written by the oil industry — give away more public resources." Sen. Barack Obama, the Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee, rejected lifting the drilling moratorium that has been supported by a succession of presidents for nearly two decades. "This is not something that's going to give consumers short-term relief and it is not a long-term solution to our problems with fossil fuels generally and oil in particular," said Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, lumping Bush with McCain, accused them of staging a "cynical campaign ploy" that won't help lower energy prices.
