One could have have said that about the Iraqi National Congress just a few years ago. Or CPN in Nepal, which just won their independence a few months ago after a 15 year war. Or the Mujahadeen/Taliban in Afghanistan who fought the Russians for a dozen years before taking power there. Sometimes these rebel groups do ultimately win their independence, even if it seems like a longshot at an earlier point in time.
I'm not saying they are justified in their actions. I'm saying that I'm sure they believe in their cause and think they can ultimately win.
