What argument(s) do people use when govts keep prying into people's privacy with these 'big' brother' cameras?

I guess I'll have to get one of those sprays to 'hide' my license plate or something.
13 MPH over the speed limit. Why not just slow down?

I would never pay the ticket without some sort of fight.
It's extortion.
Many roads are marked slower for the sole purpose of the state/city to generate tickets from speeders. A road engineered for 55mph maybe be marked at 40mph Even though there is no real reason for the speed limit to be reduced. This is ILLEGAL, and the basis for many and most arguments for the court to hear. You can easily subpeona the records for that street that you were fined on and almost definately you will find that it has been illegally reduced. And, since cops are using radar/laser "whatever" to fine you, it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.. IT'S CALLED THE SPEEDTRAP LAW.

Juan,
I know you and I have disagreed on this in the past and I mean you no harm. But imho, to pay and admit guilt is to give in to a corrupt money making system. I live in Los Angeles and was actually given a $125 J-Walking not long ago. No traffic, no danger, no intersection nearby. Just minding my own business crossing the street, on my feet.
- I was fined for one reason and one reason alone, REVENUE.. Now it could be argued that I broke the law. And, I did break the law. But cops are put on the street to protect the safety of the citizens, not to generate revenue for the state.

- Giving tickets is reactive with only one goal, $$$$. If we wanted to really slow cars down, they would install speed bumps instead of photo radars, but there is no money in speed bumps. Or, the govt. would legislate that car manufacturers can not make vehicles that exceed 70mph.

So, my point is, lets not get symantic, you broke the law, pay the fine.
I am sure in some states, giving-receiving, felatio, cunnilingus, and I don't need to say more.. Is illegal.. how would you like to pay a fine everytime you got a blowjob... lol !!!

Best,
B

btw, isn't this a fun arguement..

North Carolina - Hostile Climate

Sex law remains on books

State lawmakers tried, but failed, to limit the North Carolina sodomy statute, which penalizes consenting adults. The sodomy statue states that, “If any person shall commit the crime against nature, with mankind or beast, he shall be punished as a Class I felon.” The law, which applies to both homosexual and heterosexual couples, defines oral and anal sex as felonies, with a presumptive imprisonment of two years. State Senators Ellie Kinnaird and Jeanne Lucas introduced The Sexual Privacy Act to exempt consenting adults from the sodomy law’s reach.

DC government is all about revenue from tickets, B. Anyone who doubts that need only remember the Mayor's remarks at an event a couple of years ago which were something like "thank you all for coming, enjoy the city, get lots of parking tickets". When I was a kid, NOBODY worried about a traffic stop in DC, the police had bigger fish to fry with all the violent and drug crime, still true to a large extent in 75% of the city. I'll bet many DC police officers have never written a traffic ticket that wasn't associated with a pullover for suspected drug activity. It's another form of toll, these tickets from the speed cameras and red light cameras too. Gotta rake in more dough so the city's school board members can embezzle it!

i know this product won't really do much w/ photo radar, but it might be useful for redlight camera's or tolls.

It's all very good to talk big about taking it to court and fighting it, but here's what will happen in reality, as it did the one time I tried to do it.

After expressing my opinions and arguments about why I should not have to pay the fine.....

Judge: Was the speed limit posted?

Me: Yes

Judge: And do you dispute the speed you were travelling at the time you were photographed.

Me: No, but.....

Judge: Then stop wasting this court's time. Guilty. Pay the fine.

Or the mayor can use it to buy cracks (like mayor Barry in the past).

The DC Government has hired a Collections Company to pursue delinquent tickets, parking, speeding, any ticket. They use traffic and parking tickets as a major source of revenue, you know that. If you try and fight it in court or via www.parkingticket.com, and it goes to Collections, on purpose or by mistake, you'll have to fight like hell to remove it from your credit report (first hand knowledge of this).

Write that check, ease your mind.

I swear, when I used to take 295S into work and pass the unmarked camera car, the officer in it was either reading the paper, talking on the phone, or sleeping. I thought it was pretty funny (probably cause I never got the ticket). However, my wife has built up her photo portfolio on Michigan Ave.
