Yeah I agree, I don't get that "executive privilege" junk. Seems like a nice blanket of "nah-nah you can't touch me".

5th amendment rights do not allow you to ignore a Federal subpoena and not show up to testify. What they allow you to do is to refuse to answer a question on the grounds that it may incriminate you. And he certainly does have that right. But he has not invoked his 5th amendment priveledge. What he has done is ignored a subpoena -- something that if you or I did, a warrant for our arrest would be issued and we would be thrown in jail.

This White House thinks they are above the law and they can do anything they want. Unfortunately for them, we have a system of checks and balances built into our government, and one of them is that congress has the power of subpoena. Another is that they have to abide by Federal Court orders -- another thing they have ignored many times in the past.

They might think that the Supreme Court will uphold their position of executive privilege. Likely, they have a lot of confidence that would happen.

Plus the Federal Court told Billy Clint that his aides could be called to testify in the Monica Lewinsky case. You see what happened with that (Kenneth Starr).
