Probably because Georgia is at a location that may help US strategically. (I mean geographically) Think of oil transportation, and military placement among other things.
Plus Georgia has the 3rd largest troops in Iraq, next to U.S., and Great Britain. Georgia probably knew U.S. would "help out" that's why they went ahead and further pissed off Russia. |

I see both points made here....but helping Georgia is not a healthy option for the US to take at this point..simply because Georgia is the main reason for this...Russia has all the right to act accordingly to what Georgia has done...
It's enough that US has made the mistake of helping Israel build house developments on 'conflict' lands that belong to palestinians.... I am sure Russia will settle this conflict

Also keep in mind that Georgia military forces are equipped and sponsored on US taxpayer's money.

Great, I was so glad to miss the cold war... I guess we aren't spread thinly enough. Either that or we like the new sport of poking sleeping bears. If we get involved in this and Russia reacts to us we will be the moron humans in a messin with sasquatch commercial.

We didn't poke the bear- the bear planned this well in advance and has killed thousands of unarmed civilians while the World watched the Olympics. Hitler invaded Poland the same way and virtually on the same precept. It wasn't our problem then either, right?
While I don't believe we have a military option we should, with our European neighbors, definitely get involved. Georgia has a democratically elected government, is strategically very important to Western interests, is a strong ally and was even slated to join NATO. The WSJ had some very sage advice about how to respond this AM. Hopefully our leaders are going to follow it- and not act like Neville Chamberlain. |

Sorry, but I just don't think you can compare Hitler's plans to this. Apples to oranges completely. Maybe you could explain then, when is, and when isn't it our job to get involved in foreign matters. If Georgia has asked for our help, which I am unaware of, that is one matter.

Bad idea for the US to do anything the Russians would deem as hostile. We are spread WAY too thin right now and I could not think of a worse time to re-start the cold war.
Also...Place yourself in Putin's place right now. If I were him I'd be doing the same everything Geo-politically Considered. In the grand scheme of things Russia has a right to act in their best interest. Too bad because Georgia would be a strategic goldmine for the West. |
