Thanks for the kind Props from everyone...

That sunrise, from yesterday I think, was simply and literally,
a snap shot from our deck with my 5 yr old point & shoot ol'
Canon S50 pocket cam. Straight off the flash card...I just
aimed right into the sun, as it rose above the valley fog, over
the Canton Gap.

trueX: "Sharpening"...hmmm. I was PM'ng with Gresch on that very
topic; I'm not a fan of much sharpening as it tends to push
the edge acutance too much, imo. I don't have real PS so
it limits my fiddling, which is fine. That horizon is 15 miles and
all the stuff in the "middle" is gonna be tough to shoot "sharp",
as the distance and size of the view precludes much detail in
all the other stuff. A view cam at f32 or f64 might catch it, or
a monster digital of some kind...but, that backlight, contrasty
morning shot does not lend itself to detail in fore or mid ground, imo.

Haigha: not your usual. V & I are in this weekend's annual Mixed
Mem-Mem, aka the Divorce Derby. We had a fine 77 gross/57 net
today in Better Ball Partners. She shot an 87 and I had an 83, both
below our current 'Caps. Tomorrow is 2 person team scramble, not
my fave, but we are right in the hunt. 6 years ago, at our first go
at this format, we came in dead fookin last and about 20 shots out
of 2nd to last, lol! We have improved...golf may be the greatest game
ever invented.

Over labor day weekend I shot an air show on Long Island and made a few prints for a friend who hung them in his office. The comments he gets are well intentioned but a little back handed "wow, great pics, he must have a great camera" .

I think that type of comment is akin to going to dinner at a friends house, having a great meal and then saying "wow, great meal, you must have some great pots and pans!"

I know, another pet peeve.


Great pics MD... with or without the sharpening. And you don't need a 40D, you've got a great photographers eye, and you can't buy that in the B&H catalogue

I've been struggling for several weeks. We have a somewhat random way of determining who pays for the chile con queso and drinks after the round. I have had to pay for four out of the last five weeks.

Here's how it works:

If you have the high net score on a hole, alone, you get a nacho on that hole. If there is more than one group, the scorecards are compared at the end to eliminate tied nacho holes among the groups.

If you have a natural birdie on a hole, you get an anti-nacho.

If you have a natural eagle or better you are nacho free for the day.

At the end of the round, everyone with anti-nachos can eliminate holes of their choice where they have nachos using one anti-nacho per nacho.

The player with the low net score rolls one die at the end of the round. If the roll is:

- 1 or 2, one die is rolled
- 3 or 4, two dice are rolled
- 5 or 6, three dice are rolled

until a nacho hole is hit to determine the person who pays.

It's fun because it adds an element of luck to the game.

I'm not sure why they're called nachos, since we have chile con queso

Great shots. You definately have a great eye. Really nice shots.

Instead of all that PS stufffff just try a 35mm (manual) high speed film, close down the f-stop and expose a little longer; on a tripod. Work that focus to a point and it will pay off. Even better, a 2.5" format camera would do really well. Digital is nice, but even the best can't touch a well exposed roll. You cannot add what isn't there.

mD, those photos are just plain SICK!!!! Sick-nasty, as my niece and her friends say!
