Ok I will put in my 2 cents, having zero posting here take it for what it is...

Mk1 Range Rover (first lux SUV)
Mk3 Range Rover 03 to 05 (BMW in a lux suit)
2001 Corvette Z06 (a little ruf in build, but gives so much more)
Audi allroads (first SAV even if it was a stop gap SUV for Audi)
65 or 66 Ford Mustang GT350
Any M BMW...
Aston Martin Vantage V8 Coup (to me just a perfict shap)

I really want to say E46 M3. That was a massive leap for the M division when it came out. A stratospheric redline, 107bhp/litre, yet usable everyday. I still remember the praise heaped upon it when it came out back in 2001, and even today, there is a lot of positive aspects about it.

But really, I have to say the E39 5er. That is a beautiful, understated, and often under-respected vehicle. Everytime I see one, I admire it's simple yet elegant design, the right size, and well-appointed but not glitzy interiour.

Oh dear, a thought just popped up in my mind: Perhaps the E46 M3 is too sporty for me...........perhaps I want to just sit back in a 530i sport.

Not sure when the 'modern era' started, but from my own experience, favourites would include:
  • Original Mini, for starting the whole fwd 2-box-design era
  • Early E-types, despite the reliability issues, simply for the design and performance
  • 65-66 Mustang, for inventing pony cars
  • Suburban (for being the best at the concept, and longevity)
  • 86 Taurus (for reinventing four door sedans)
  • E46 BMW, truest to the mission in recent years
Just balancing out the BMW focus here. Lots of other memorable cars, but not that I have experience with. I do think that the current E60 is an amazing vehicle, a very competent car, and the 3.0 tt is an amazing engine, but I don't think the E60, as good as it is, will stand the test of time the same as those above. I suppose I am interpreting 'best' as iconic.

I don't know if it's the best car ever made, but I've always had a place in my heart for the Lamborghini LM002.
I always wanted to buy one but understand they are completely impractical to keep running.

I had completely forgot about the LM002! Only seen one in person at a car show years ago, would love to have a go at one.
