My mistake...I guess your subtle comment was based upon your
"support" of the Lib or Green or,...party. I stand corrected: you
didn't mention McCain.

Save your "baited breath" for the political arm wrestle forum.

Good Luck, all.
Well I'm 25, so I guess I better just get used to the idea of paying back the repercussions of the reckless decisions made in the last 20 years or so. And to think, I already feel like I get screwed on taxes because of my income, marital status, and property ownership status.

Again...Nowhere did I say McCain and Palin would be able to save our bacon. What I did say and not so subtle was that spending in a downturn economy and our current deficit which just got a whole lot worse is a bad idea. A US House, Senate and President run by Obama, Pelosi and Reid could be dangerous if they stick to what they have said they wanted in terms of Social programs. There is no reason to think otherwise.

My point being is we can't spend our way out of a deficit.

Two key issues

1...home ownership is not a right in the USA although americans would like to think it is...there are people making 20-30k a year with a $200,000 mortgage...

2...the other issue in this country is the belief that everyone has a right to go to college or even should go to college....wrong

College/higher education is not for everyone. But for those who want the opportunity (and have the aptitude to acheive), it should be afforded (and affordable) to them. Not everyone is top-tier material, but there are plenty of tier two and three schools that are available.

I would argue that today, the importance of finishing college is like finishing high school was 30 years ago. IMO, in most instances, a post-graduate degree of some kind is almost necessary.

That is a big tab

I'm the ripe old age of 19, so I'm already pretty sure that I'll be relying solely on life investments and savings when I get to actual retirement age. As far as I know, the gov't only takes away from my paychecks to put the money in a pot that will be nonexistant. I'm mildly stingy now and am always mindful of savings, but I hope inflation doesn't kill all that I save anyways.

I have an idea...

Lets raise taxes on people who got 30 year, fixed mortgages on homes they could afford.
With the taxes we raise, we could then bail out all the home buyers who tried to make a quick buck by falsifying documents and gouging the next potential buyer... Or the people who just decided it was less expensive to default on their purchase than pay the bank or wait out the housing decline.

Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket....
