Remember in the eighties, the London co that failed and there was a huge cash call from the stockholders to right the debts??? (some help here please, I drank alot then and like the 60's for some, everything is fuzzy)

What we are going through is a correction.... one could argue that it is a social correction with financial implications. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the right to own a home and the right to college education are two American convections that are being questioned for the first time.

I read an article a couple of days ago in the Wall Street Journal and the gist of it is that it is time for Americans to start producing real intangible products that could be felt and people need. The days of Wall Street producing manufacture paper products are gone.

Hopefully this financial correction will result in social correction where kids going to school will start considering engineering and science as an option to a good quality life not just financials.

You're right on here. As a society we really don't produce much at home like we did years ago allowing us to weather the financial storms if you will. We've become a Nation of service providers for the most part and much of our wealth is on paper making us more vulnerable to swings in global markets.

We as a Nation need to reinvent ourselves and get back to that level of production instead of transferring our need for products overseas.

In addition, stop giving incentives to American corporations to ship jobs overseas.

Without offending the Commerce Clause of the Constitution, I would think the govt could mandate that American corporations, if they want to continue to do business here and receive the protection of our laws, should be required to maintain certain level of its workforce and intellectual property here in America.
