Nah, they are of no importance.. They don't live in San Francisco..

I have a better idea... Why not put armed guards every 100 yards (It would be cheaper) and if they see someone attempting suicide, they should SHOOT THEM DEAD for breaking the trespassing and disorderly conduct laws..

That would create more jobs and there would be less suicide on the bridge. Unless you consider death by cop (security guard) a form of suicide, which in another debate...

Or maybe, we can install trampoline boats at the bottom of the bridge.. So when people jump, they get impaled by the bridge, thus causing an "accidental death" as opposed to a blatant suicide jumper.

QS, my friend, you speak exactly as liberals have spoken for generations. Let's not actually do something that might truly work, but rather let's do what makes us all feel good about ourselves. At least we can point to the drop in the suicide rate on the bridge, and pretend we saved lives.

QS,

If you think it would be better to spend money on that rather than say, the education of the children in your neighborhood, then that's your call.

If you would rather spend money on that than on fire departments that need to expand because of the ever increasing wild fires that are happening as a result of global warming.. Fine, it's your money.

If you would rather spend your money on that than fixing this already messed up state, again, it's your contribution to do with as you please.

Personally, I recognize there is a finite amount of money to go around for things and every dollar you spend on a net, is one less dollar you get to spend educating your communities children, preventing crime, or real jobs fixing roads, etc.

So while it's not about the money. It's about the misappropriation of public resources.

It is interesting to note that the Psychiatric Foundation of Northern California has supported the idea, contending that the effectiveness of barriers has been "dramatic" at such landmarks as the Empire State Building and Eiffel Tower.

The group also cites a study of 515 people who were stopped from jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. It concluded that 94% of them were alive or had died naturally long after their thwarted attempts.

But it sounds like all of you are against this idea. That being the case I respect your opinions however It's my opinion that the project is a fair use of resources and the results of lives saved (imo) makes it worth it.

Thanks for your thoughts

As I read you comment i wondered what knowledge you have regarding what i have done to prevent someone from committing suicide? It seem to me that when comments are made regarding weather people are actually doing something that might truly works or not is a baseless assumption.

My suggestion regarding this matter is that perhaps there are some of us liberal or not that may be more involved in these issues than you realize. It may be that some of these same people you marginalize get involved not because it makes them feel good about themselves. Instead they do it because they want others to feel good about themselves and live purposeful lives.

I believe there are many people liberals or otherwise who will continue to work with those who are struggling with their lives and we will continue to applaud those who try to assist in that effort.

Ha-ha I'm not shocked that they do, in fact I'm sure they will be at the bridge to recruit new people for their organization. I think it's a waste of money as well but with SF's rap for stupid decisions, I'm not shocked

Your assumption about my assumption is incorrect. You are assuming I was talking specifically about you and your efforts to prevent suicide. Perhaps my statement was not clear. I was using your comment about it being a "noble" effort to make a broader statement about my opinion of liberalism v. conservativism. Liberals generally are happy to know that someone "feels their pain", per B Clinton. I apologize if you thought it was a personal attack on you. It was oriented more toward the liberal mindset, that you seemed to be espousing.
