UPDATE:

The two-for-one deal is no longer on Costco.com but my two local Costco B&M's have two 46" Aquos choices. They have the Sharp Aquos LC-C4655U and the Sharp Aquos LC-C46D64U both for $999.99 after $300 off. The latter is the one that was offered on the two-for-one deal but it's even better now because you don't have to buy two and you can save on the $100 shipping costs.

I was scouring the Internet to find the differences between these two models, of course wanting to get the better one if there was a better one. The best I can tell, the D64U is the better model. It is still listed on Sharp's site for whatever that's worth. It has 1 less HDMI input but it has a jack pack on the side for the convenience of hooking up a camcorder or other temporary input. It has more powerful speakers (15W vs. 10W) and perhaps more importantly, has a 4ms response time vs. 6ms. Both are full 1080p 60Hz sets. We bought the D64U tonight.

The funny thing is that the C55U was selling better at the two stores and we think that the main reason is that the box it comes in is covered in colorful graphics whereas the D64U came in a pretty plain brown box. I think that it's actually an older model than the D64U.

If anyone can clear this up beyond what I stated feel free. I am pretty sure I made the right choice but wouldn't mind confirmation.

Sharp LC-C46D64U

Sharp LC-C4655U

Quicksilver: Now you don't have to find a partner for this deal.

D64 is the better one for sure. Also Costco has 2 year warranty. Quite a few deals on Sharp these days.

PS: Your D64 linky was pointing to spam post you deleted... so fixed it for you.

LOL! The late night life of a moderator! I forgot that the last thing cut was that spam link. Thanks for the fix.

Thank you also for confirming my conclusion that the D64U series is better. One might think that if a set has one more HDMI input that it is newer and/or better but this is not the case. I wish I knew more about the origin of the different model numbers and series. I know that manufacturers sometimes create special numbers for warehouse stores but this is extra confusing because Costco has both models.

Love the Costco policy, even if it is "only" 90 days. If it goes out within 90 days then it can go back. Perhaps it might break down when the 52's are down to just a bit over a grand, if that happens within 90 days.

52s may drop below 1k. I saw a $1200 deal the other day.

Weird. That bundle wasn't showing up on Costco.com last night. Oh well. It worked out well for me since everyone I knew who was interested in splitting the two-pack bailed. Plus I saved on shipping charges.

EDIT: Actually, upon a second look that a different bundle. This is for the C55U series even though the picture shows a D64U series.

My tilting/swiveling wall mount will be here tomorrow so the new Aquos will be fired up. Got this mount. The place I got it from is the place to get wall mounts and cables for that matter.

Hey Kev, do you plan on using it for 1080p gaming? I'm curious whether it works well with a XBOX 360 or PS3.

I am a deprived child without a 1080p gaming console. I only have a Wii but I can probably borrow a PS3 from a friend to check it out. Maybe he'll forget I have it.
