I hear what you're sayin', but I'd want to make the screen and projector all James Bond and hidden when not in use, and I just can't make that happen in the current digs.

To Chris F's point about the screen covering - the guy at Ultimate said the XSRD Sony's would have the reflective covering like a plasma instead of the matte finish like a typical LCD or DLP.

Good to know! I need to make some calls to see where I need to go look at one.

I am putting in new blinds to cover all windows this weekend, too much sun during the day pours into the family room. Hard to watch football on the weekends!

I actually could make do with a 50 or 57" screen, easily, (we have 4 yr old 57" Toshiba Rear Proj, widescreen now, and it's fine). But, TheCEO, whom is Not one to toss money, saw the Sony Wega/XBR something LCD screen at a CCity in Naples while we were buying a cheap 20" tube for the FL House spare bedroom...she loved it. I have no idea if that is the new LCoS stuff or reg LCD or...

So, my point is, she is looking to "fill the wall" in that room in our FLA joint and thus, a 60 or 70" thing is what she wants me to get in early Dec when we get there. Again, I love watching stuff, but the nuances from "type to type" of TV are very subtle, imo, and very subjective. I'm not running a test, I'm watching the weather, movies, HBO, some football, etc. ...Casual but, interested viewing is what I think it's called,

But, this thread is Very Informative and I like how the fooking prices are dropping like a rock.

As for "life of lights", etc., this is gonna be a TV we use 1000 hrs a "season" there in our FL joint, so "life" of the light source is no big deal to me.

I'll keeping reading here...I appreciate the good info and opins and options tossed out.

Guys if you are planning to get a plasma TV, get the Pioneer Elite Plasma 50" its Incredible on HD!!!! its got everything. Best TV i have seen on the market. I love mine.

Good deal MD. Well the biggest rear projection right now is about 70", and that is the $13,000 Qualia (the top of the line Sony). I heard there was going to be a price drop on the Qualia because JVC is coming out with a 70" based on similar technology (LCoS). Gotta love competition!!

So if you have a 56" right now, you might as well splurge and have a little fun! I think the first thing you should do is to go and see if you see the rainbows on DLP. Right now Plasmas are still mucho dinero for anything beyond 50", so go check out a DLP and see if you can see the rainbows. From there we can advise whats best for ya...

Man I sound like a sales person... haha... I guess this is what happens when you read the AVS forums every day I've been hunting for a new TV for about 2 years now.

PS: When I was about 7 or 8, growing up in Detroit, I used to walk around the neighborhood and knock on doors to see if anyone "had" a TV and, could I come in and look at it for a minute, lol! We finally got a TV in 1957, when I was 10. It was about an 8 inch b&w screen in a huge box, bought used.

MD, that 70" is a nice set, but its old technology now. The SXRD technology is really a step up from LCD (not that LCD is bad by any means, its just that the technology in these things is changing so damn quickly). If you can wait, there is a 70" SXRD coming out in the Spring. Otherwise, the 60" is going to be as big as it gets for now unless you want to splurge 10 grand (discount price) on the Qualia 006

You know, there are some that say the latest generations don't have a burn in issue anymore, however Panasonic still recommends a 100 hour 'burn in procedure' to try an avoid possible future burn in. It's somewhere on their website.

So I don't know who to believe, maybe someone who knows more about Plasma can chime in (gresch?).
