i bought a mac mini about a year ago to go along with my iphone and to replace my noisy desktop pc. i am a huge fan of leopard osx and am amazed at how well the mac mini runs photoshop and any other hog of a program on such a small spec-ed machine. (1.8mHz 1Gig ram)

another huge turn on was that there are alot of opensource programs for mac osx. check this site for starters Open Source Mac - Free Mac software, all open-source, all OS X.

i still rock the PC though. microsoft's not going anywhere, so dont shutout that CTRL key just yet.

I have used quite a few applications on the open source list.
Camino, Handbrake, Fugu, Cyberduck and a few others. All work very well.

So even if one was to fail, the other would retain the information. It sounds like it's something that's much more useful if you have 3 or more devices that you want to sync.
Do it! MMe is also how you will share photos with your new Mac by making "web galleries". In addition, when you take a picture with your iPhone, you can upload it directly to your MMe web gallery!

You can also use MMe with backup 3.1.2 to set up automatic backups of whatever you want to your idisk! If your computer ever gets stolen or crashes, you will be glad you have it!

Oh, and also large file sharing

That actually sounds pretty useful. I didn't know about those features. I'll have to check it out.

I would have some privacy concerns with that.

Why is that?, it's all on secure servers and is password protected. Additionally, the backup is "off site", so that if your house burns down or everything is stolen, you can restore.

Good luck with the Mac

You might be better off with this machine

While I like the faster processor and better graphics card that the regular Macbook has, it is also $200 more expensive, 50% heavier, and does not have backlit keyboard (unless you get the even more expensive model).

you picked the right one, but that AL one is a pretty sweet machine. my buddy got one. i'm not sure if the Air has it, but the new AL ones have three finger recognition on the touch pad in web browsing to go back and FWD. (I'm sure it does more than that in other apps too.)

multi touch alone is SWEET for browsing and on my dell i find myself trying to do it all the time just get disappointed.
