Anybody running MS Windows 7? - Page 2

That's good to hear. I have never run Vista for MANY reasons and stuck it out with XP Pro until now. I just built a new box around an E8400 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM on an Asus P5Q board and Radeon 4850. so I wanted to run a 64-bit OS. I figured "what the heck". It has been fast and I also like the UI. It's quite pretty and updated over XP. I also have a Mac running OSX and Windows 7 has a bit of that feel with things like the lighted dot beneath icons in the menu bar and miniature preview windows when you roll over items in the pseudo "dock". The menus have a more intuitive feel and things seem to laid out more logically.

There are still quite a few bugs, I think. For example, I could not for the life of me get my printer installed via Airport Extreme until finding a fix online. There are others, I'm sure and I am hoping when RC comes out that it will be mostly fixed.

Vista SP1 has a serious problem with older USB devices, it will consistently blue screen. I loaded SP2RC and it's been great.

I'm so glad I never went Vista.

I sort of blame you for my new PC. After you got it I started thinking and scraped some parts together from my PC-parts hoarding friend and gutted my Antec Sonata to fill it up with newness.

You can go to vista ultimate, it's solid, i've even got the RC of Sp2 loaded and it's still solid! In fact it's more solid than SP1. I hope when they finally make sp2 general release that i don't have to reload the entire OS to remove the rc and load the general release.

and don't blame me for your new pc, you know you wanted it hahaha

btw- i just bought new golf clubs, don't read that thread, i don't want to hear about how you just $1500 on new sticks

Don't think you're in luck there when the GA version of SP2 comes out. Just read the following in regard to the latest beta of Vista SP2 "One thing to note if you're thinking of trying the beta — upgrading to the final release will require uninstalling the beta." Seems like SP2 could only become GA in May or June...

I don't understand, it says that you just have to unistall the beta of sp2, which is no problem, i don't want to have to reinstall the entire OS.

Oh, you're right

I think you might want to install Windows 7 RC by then anyway...

I just spent $150 on upgrading to Ultimate, i think i'll wait awhile to go to 7.

I'm on the beta for W7 too, and so far it has been a very positive experience starting with the two-click fast installation process. It does seem to behave better than Vista on lower power hardware and older hardware, and right out of the box it feels zippier than Vista. Device support is superb, even with me trying to trick it with lots of odd vid cards, TV interfaces, controllers and all kinds of USB devices.
Now I just need a hotrod like G's to run through some stress tests.

Find an old external SATA to USB enclosure, about 4-5 years old, and plug it in.

Wait for the BSOD.

Running it in a VM with 384 megs of RAM, 1 CPU. Runs faster than my Vista and comparable to my XP (multiple apps etc, great memory handling)

I am very impressed.
