BMW vs. Pontiac G8

Does anyone know of a published road test comparison between the Pontiac G8 and a comparable 3 series BMW? Thanks.

I doubt there would be one. The G8 is more comparable to a 5er since it is much larger than a 3er, which is technically a compact sedan.

The 335 is all about handling and smooth power, it is much smaller than the G8, the 5 is closer in size as AZN said.

The G8 is a midsized car with a big powerful V8, the quality of the interior ride and feel is not in the same class a BMW, the CTS is a closer match to the BMW.

Its like my mustang friend and I always talk about. The American V8 is at home on the track where the BMW would get blown away (until you put in a JB) and the BMW is at home in the curves where the G8 is in a ditch (until you transplant it into an M3).

BMW now gets better or similar performance (depending on model) out of a tt 6-cylinder than typical American V8's (save a few). Most American V8 cars are not really good track performers either as the handling suffers and they are typically pigs. Even the old e46 M3 can compete with or even beat many typical new American cars with V8's. As heavy as we complain about BMW's getting, most American cars with V8's are much heavier and do not handle nearly as well.

Mustangs are fairly good cars. I happen to like them, but an e46 M3 would be a better track car.

It also depends on what car you are talking about and what sort of comparison. A 135i is very similar to a Mustang GT as far as 0-60 is concerned. It would probably beat it actually.

OP, I agre with others, that would be comparing apple to oranges. I doubt that comparo has been done.

Also one used to made by GM and now who knows what will happen especially since its Pontiac.

Personally, I wouldn't let the bankruptcy affect my buying or purchases. GM isn't going to disappear, now that the gov't sank so much money in it.

I'd buy a Saturn Astra right now had the new one coming out soon in Europe been so damn nice.

I poked my head in a G8 this afternoon. The interior looks like something from a 1998 Grand Prix - I haven't seen so much ill fitting plastic and mismatched shades of grey in a long time. I talked with a salesman and was so put off by the interior looks that I declined a test drive. I tried to be as unbiased as I could, but it was just cheap looking - it really reminded me of the interior of my 1998 Chevrolet PU truck.
