Whatever people may have
thought of his life, his contribution
to the music world cannot be
questioned. Sad day IMO.

Tangentially...why is it that so many artists are flakes or freaks? It must be something really different about their brains.

Because their personal lives play out in the public eye...their imperfections are made visible and over-hyped by the media. They'll go to any length, from going through your garbage to paying top dollar for a picture of your child. Put yourself in that situation for a moment and imagine how your idiosyncrasies, good or bad could be distorted for the sake of profit.

"Artists" just may be the something that is really different about their brains.
It is true that many seem to be flakes or freaks. Dedicating ones self to the arts
(rather than money) can require some serious divergence from normal life.

At the end of the day he did make some good music. Not in the last 15 years or so, but the early stuff was good. RIP.

If you really think about it most artists are sort of strange. You have to remember that a lot of times these famous celebs were not cool or popular even as far back as high school. Not to insult anyone, but think about the people who were big in drama or arts at your school. Do you even remember any of them? Were they somewhat strange? Even later in life, who really wants to hang out with a grown man who is worried about singing and dancing all day...not me personally. I bet if you had a chance to hang out with some celebs for over 24 hours you would want to jump off a bridge. These people are famous for what they do, a song they once sang or a cool movie role they played, but not who they are as real people most of the time.

Quite a few people I know are in shock about the whole thing.
In spite of the troubles he was having many people who were
not necessarily fans were rooting for him hoping he would make
a comeback. Now it's all gone.....
