I'm waiting on a new M5 (December build), work sucks, life is wonderful. I think the new M5 gets about the same mileage as the tank. Many new owners are saying less than 10 MPG during break-in. I can't wait to fill it up often!

Just in case,
I just caught this thread over on Bimmerfest site.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=119058

It shows an official BMW spare-tire-mounted gas can - for emergencies, I guess.

Should I be worried, should I visit the dealership?

Ok, I was wondering if the MPG on my x5 is normal or not? With a full tank, about 25 gallons, I'm getting only 260-270 miles, that's only city driving. My X5 is a 2003 4.4L. I believe the book says 15 MPG city driving.
I would like to know if I should go and visit the dealer, since I have about 4000 miles left on the warranty.
Thanks

OK, the joys of a diesel.....

2 adults, 2 grown up kids and 1 fully loaded X5.

Minimum of 80 all the way to the South of France earlier this year.......

wait for it...........

Over 650 miles (675 from memory) before a fill up was required.

Cruise control on all the way and with a playstation in the back, no noise at all from the rug rats.

In normal thrashing around driving (with a chipped 270bhp 05 X5) I get between 550 - 600.

When are you guys getting an economic X5???

Numbers for city driving varies all over the place (too many factors to take into consideration). The 15MPG number in the book is optimistic for real world anyway. 270 miles per tank (I'm assuming you don't run your tank dry, which puts you in the range of 12-14mpg) sounds within reason that I doubt your dealer will do anything about it other than the "that's normal" canned answer.
