He got his learner's permit a week ago. We have been going out driving in the neighborhood and such every day after he gets in from school. On the weekend, we used an empty parking lot nearby to practice parking. He is doing really well. He got to drive the X5 yesterday afternoon, and (like all of us) was simply grinning with delight as regards the handling and overall feel of a BMW.

...having taught both my son & daughter, (daughter was quicker to
get good/proficient, even on the stick shift VW, & remains the much
better driver), I remember it well. Stuff for a lil' hand wringing as we all
recall how inept "we" were, and how easily distracted/unskilled the novice
driver is. Good call on the X, imo; if the crap hits the fan, he has good
protection. I learned on a metallic crap brown 1960 Ford station wagon,
3 on the tree.

Sounds like a great plan to me. Glad she's all fixed.
