I've got a 40D and it's more camera than I can use right now. What happened to coming out with a new body every 5 years or so? I was using a Minolta X700 for 20 years before digital came around.

I saw 40D bodies going for $899 on amazon a bit back ago; don't see any from amazon currently, just merchants. In fact, I see less stock of 40D/50Ds now, there have been some good deals on them recently.

I think you're SOL, they're discontinued. Try Adorama or 17th St photo and do it quickly. Be careful of refurbs, make sure it's new.

1901B010 Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera Body Kit with EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 USM Image Stabilized Lens - USA Warranty

Adorama has the kits.

Just wait for the next release and get the 50D, after price drop. Body only lists for $1199 now. Will come down below 1000 after replacement release.

Costco.com had 50D + 28-135 lens + MP980 printer for $1300 earlier this week. Seems to have disapeared now. $300 rebate is till September 30.

There is rebate on lenses as well till Aug 8th.

I agree on the 50D "wait"; if the new model drives down the 50D price enough,
I might bust open the piggy bank, too. The key is "waiting" but not too long
or they disappear. I still like the Nikon D80, D90 and D5000 too, as I am not
married to any lens system.

I also agree with Gresch: I used my Minolta Maxxum X7i body and its lenses
for 25 years.
Now the digi cams, both P&S and DSLRs have a new system and body, etc.,
every year. WTF?! I bet 90% of the consumers that have a high end DSLR
have never read the manual or rarely taken it off Auto, let alone fiddled with
the umptyseven menus and "features" that even the pros seldom use...
