. The one I listed also takes 720p HD video which would be cool. Maybe I'll go check out reviews at the AV Forum.

fine for close in and quick shooting with very good color and image capture, for a "pocket". I am not after a new pocket; next up is a new DSLR, either Canon or Nikon, or maybe just a new lens or two for my budget KonicaMinolta 5D, which is no slouch for the stuff I shoot. I was perusing DPReivew and am amazed at the models Canon has; makes the ol'General Motors look focused, no pun. I was going blind trying to differentiate the subtle differences between the plethora of models. Image capture capability is still the deal, imo...12 meg of pixels, etc., is not the chase. That sx200 has a loooonngg focal length, maybe no necessary, but decent macro. I'm with SanGuru: what do you want/need in a new cam that your current cam isn't giving you? I recall you bought a decent semi-pocket Canon a couple years ago and I don't recall your pics sucking. So... just the urge or are there some features that grab you? GL,mD |

Message from Helen, Adorama Camera Customer Service Ambassador

A refurb may be an ex-store demo, possibly used in field tests or sales displays, or it may have been ordered in error and returned to the retailer (who can't then sell it as 'new' so it has to be sent back to the manufacturer for refurbishment). A refurb can also have simply been pulled from the production line if something appears faulty, or if it hasn't passed the final inspection. Most of the time it is a very minor issue that needs correcting, nevertheless, once it is pulled from the normal flow of production, it gets flagged as a refurbished model, so you may get a unit straight from the factory that has never been used. A refurbished item will have been checked over by the manufacturer by hand, inspected very thoroughly, diagnosed, and calibrated by experienced technicians, and could therefore turn out to be more dependable than a new item - which will only have been checked by a process of systematic quality control protocol (ie by random sampling as it comes off the conveyor belt). In the past Adorama warranted Canon refurbished for 90 days; since 1st May, all Canon refurbished products from Adorama come with a 1 year return-to-Adorama warranty; 14 days from date of receipt for a full refund, and the balance for repair or replacement. I hope this helps, but do let me know if you need anything else.

Greg,
See if the Nikon D40 with the two lens kit, Nikon bag and a 7" LCD picture frame deal is available. A friend of mine picked all of these up for $550 or so at Ritz Camera. Its more than a camera (better than point and shoot) and ok lenses. Like someone else mentioned above, it is mostly about lenses when dealing with SLRs so once you are comfortable with a DSLR, you would want better lens.

I haven't bought anything from Adorama in a long time, not since I was treated like crap at the store on 18th st. I've got a pretty thick skin and it takes a lot to seriously piss me off, but the sales guy at Adorama that I dealt with one afternoon did a great job of it, and that was my last interaction with them. When I call a store, am told that they have what I'm looking for and that they'll hold it for me (from the time I hung up the phone to the time i showed up at the store was 30 minutes max) and then not only do they not hold it for me but don't have it in stock and THEN give me attitude when I show up to buy it, well,
![]() The only reason I suggested Adorama to Greg was because they were the only store I could find that still had them new. Who knows, maybe they're changing their attitudes, as it seems with Helen scouring web forums for mentions of Adorama and offering assistance

Thanks gresch,
Not sure what I'm going to do right now. I think I'll wait a little bit for all the new models to come out

Just for the record, my advice about not buying refurbs was my opinion on not buying refurbs in general, not a comment about Adorama.
