What should happen to "Balloon Family"?
The more difficult question is: what should be the role of Family Services (or Child Protection Services) in this situation? What will happen to those 2 poor boys, who to me are the REAL victims of their parents' ridiculous hoax? For the father to force a 6-year old to participate in this public farce, and then force him to lie to everyone...to the point that the poor innocent kid is vomiting on camera from the stress of participating in this lie...that (to me) constitutes child abuse, pure and simple. On the other hand: to strip these kids permanently away from their parents, whose nuttiness they may have gotten somewhat used to over the years, would be equally traumatic. This may need to happen regardless of Family Services investigation: if the judge throws the book at the parents and they get sent to jail for 5-10 years. In that case, I would think next of kin would be the best temporary option, assuming those next of kin are not in posession of the same crazy "fame at all costs" gene. One would hope there is a reasonable grandmother or an aunt who can gently and lovingly tend to these kids while thier koo-koo parents are in the slammer. And then when the parents get out of jail, I would re-evaluate them very intensely before re-uniting the kids with them. You hate to break up a family, and I would hope the parents get some serious help while they are in the slammer. But still a no-win situation for these kids. What sayeth the X5 peeps? No jail time, IMO.... for the kids' sake. Probation for the parents and in-home monitoring of the children by social services for the next ten years. The parents should be required to perform community service to repay for all of the services used in this hoax. Obviously they do not have the ability to repay for those services.
Oh, and they should be precluded from capitalizing on this story.

At least these nutcases don't have 8 kids.

I get the feeling we haven't seen the last of them. Keep in mind, all some networks need is a viable reason to greenlight a tv series (especially reality). Viewers love watching reality train wrecks...and in this case, they fit the bill. They're now a household name, their dysfunction will suffice. As irresponsible and crazy as the stunt was, their quest to gain the attention of tv networks for a reality show, imo has already happened. It's now a countdown to which network is willing to exploit this fiasco for a significant profit.
I just feel bad for those poor kids...especially after seeing the kid upchuck on tv.

I kind of think he should get jail time. He pulled, on purpose, all these people from their jobs because of a hoax, for his possible benefit. This cost thousands of dollars, numerous people to worry. It is criminal. The wife, on the other hand, I believe should remain with the kids. I also wonder about her possibly being a victim of this bizarre man. Obviously, they could all use some counseling. As far as a reality show coming from this, I would hope not. Don't think the public would go for it, not after his stunt. But, then again, some people like the strangest things.
