They did, the iPhone's popularity is the only reason Verizon has loosen up so much on their policies. Without the iPhone, Verizon probably would've never release an Android based phone.
Google Map with GPS enable on Verizon is something you would've never....NEVER see on a Verizon Wireless device back in the day. Hell they even dumped that half a** Get It Now concept.
