Apple Readies Hybrid iPhone

A new report from OTR Global says Apple plans to release a UMTS/CDMA hybrid iPhone in the third quarter of 2010.
If true, the new iPhone will play nice with Verizon's network and spell an end to AT&T's exclusivity contract in the
U.S. -- which is already slated to end sometime next year. But there's more. Read on.....................

i love AT&T, idk why everyone has such a problem with it.

my iPhone works great and with my experience if an AT&T phone is released to verizon it usually comes in lesser quality

For example: the Motorola RAZR, when it was an AT&T phone it was very high quality (ie metal back, better keypad, etc). With verizon it was crap, it had a plastic back, crappy keyboard, and of course terrible software (the usually verizon Communist red software)

So, i cant tell if this is good news or bad news.

i think this is for the worse... iPhone's will soon be everywhere(as if it already isn't), and there won't be any exclusivity in having one anymore. It is going to be another RAZR.

Since when was the iPhone exclusive? If you do a random sample of kids on a bus at any college, I bet 30-50% of students have one. I think I'm in the minority when I say I don't have a qwertz keyboard on my mobile phone.

The advantage to that is that with 3 networks, you can get unlimited calls, internet, mail, TV and SMS/MMS for about 60 bucks a month. My 1400 minutes, 2 iphones, and SMS kit run about 200 in the US.

AT&T signed an exclusive contract with Apple, so that they were the only US wireless carrier to offer the iPhone. That exclusive contract is apparently soon to come to an end, allowing Verizon, and possibly other carriers, to offer the iPhone (or variants thereof) to their customers. So, if you think you are seeing a lot of iPhones now, just wait until other cell companies start pushing them!

They're everywhere in France now, since its available from all 3 providers. And have a look, and nobody buys Orange (the first provider, who charged out the ass for service) anymore.

I really want the TV. I think I'm coming back next fall, I gotta see if I can get a regular subscription and just crank it down when I'm back home.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
So Verizon customers will have to wait another year before they can get the I-Phone?

If you read the article you would have possibly
read that "A new report from OTR Global says
Apple plans to release a UMTS/CDMA hybrid
iPhone in the third quarter of 2010".

I heard Verizon had initially declined to have an agreement for iPhones on its network. It would be competitive to some of Verizons offerings. The other question would be will all this content and applications be too much of a burden on the Verizon Network and degrade existing voice and data services? I've heard that AT&T is still not great in terms of service.
