Roads in NJ/NY are Atrocious

Drove the 3er up to NY/NJ over the weekend. Oh my god, the roads there are awful. I don't know how y'all with 19" and 20" wheels manage that on a daily basis. Despite wearing "softer" 17" winter wheels/tyres, I had to constantly slow down and weave the 3er around expansion joints, poor pavement, and potholes; I spent more time looking down at the pavement than pedestrians and overhead signs.

describes my back and what's left of my teeth. I saw so many folks on the side of the road changing a flat. Wonder if this is a normal occurance.......

And what's up with people driving 335xi with 18" summer tyres in the winter? At least the many Canadians I saw had the sense to fit winter tyres on their vehicles (granted, it's compulsory in QC).

I think next time, I'll take Amtrak. NYC is exhausting. But at least good food can be had for cheap.

And the lights on the skyscrapers are certainly very cool at night.

We are very good at slalom-ing around the potholes. Or when there's no time to swerve, you straddle the ruts right down the middle so that the tires never touch it. After shelling out a $$few hundred$$ for replacement tires in your teens, you tend to get very good at these finely-honed skills.

Uh, who doesn't give automotive wheels in inches? I'm pretty sure most of the world uses inch measurements for wheel diameter, in the same way flight altitude is given in feet for aircraft.

If y'all insist, I can give some statistics for the legs of the journey I drove:

Average speed, MD-NJ: 102,6 km/h. Thank NJ traffic on the Turnpike
Average speed, NJ-PA: 115,6 km/h
Average consumption, MD-NJ: 8,1 l/100km (29 US mpg)
Average consumption, NJ-PA: 8,0 l/100m (29,3 US mpg)

I-78 is a breeze to drive, although the long 55mph section in PA is irritating. Does no one follow the speed limit in PA? I was paranoid on the return trip that there was going to be speed enforcement.......spending time in VA does that to ya.

Only metric tires I have used were Michelin TRX.

But still on the euro theme, the references to pavement stick out. Pavement refers to sidewalks on the other side of the pond. Did you mean road surface, or tarmac? Or were you actually on the sidewalk
